Overview

Taut Carpet Repair is a website concept for a residential carpet stretching and repair service. The design combines clear service information, practical educational content, interactive pricing guidance and accessible conversion points into one cohesive customer experience.

It covers carpet stretching, wrinkle removal, seam repair, carpet patching and transition-edge repairs for homeowners, landlords, property managers and people preparing a property for rental or sale.

The challenge

Homeowners often cannot tell whether ripples, loose edges, damaged seams or small damaged areas need a professional repair or a full replacement. A conventional service website lists what the business does and leaves the visitor to work out which item applies to them, and what it might cost.

The goal was a website that explains these problems, presents the repair options clearly and helps visitors take the next step.

Design direction and visual identity

The visual direction uses warm residential imagery, a restrained forest-green and neutral palette, clear typography and a consistent hierarchy, so the brand feels trustworthy and calm: right for a service people call when something in their home looks wrong.

Colour, type and spacing are defined once as a small set of design tokens and reused by every component, which keeps the homepage, service pages, area pages, gallery and supporting pages recognisably one brand.

Website architecture and customer journey

The site is organised around customer questions rather than the company’s org chart. A visitor can arrive on the homepage, a repair page or a town page, and each leads to the same few next steps: understand the problem, see how it is repaired, get a price range, request an estimate.

  • Homepage with a problem finder, before and after proof and an estimate form
  • Five service pages, one per repair type
  • Cost estimator and project gallery
  • Service-area directory with six local pages
  • FAQ and contact pages

Key features and interactive tools

What the website does

Dedicated service pages

Five pages, one for each repair: carpet stretching and restretching, ripple and wrinkle removal, seam repair, patching and localized damage, and loose carpet and transition edges. Each page starts from the problem the visitor can see, explains the repair approach, answers the questions people ask before booking, and ends with an estimate action that already knows which service they were reading about.

Interactive carpet problem finder

Visitors pick the closest match, such as waves across the room, a wrinkle, a split seam, a burn or a lifting edge, and the page shows what they are probably seeing, the usual cause, the repair and when that repair is the right call. It is a client-side guide to help people choose a service. It is not an inspection or a diagnosis, and the page says so.

Interactive cost estimator

A four-step estimator (rooms, repairs, condition, extras) turns the visitor's choices into an indicative price range, with the pieces behind the number visible. The figures are illustrative pricing guidance, not verified local market prices and not a quote, and the interface states that the final price is confirmed after an inspection. The result carries straight into the estimate request.

Carpet repair education

A short learning module explains ripples, loose edges, seam problems and localized damage through visual comparisons and step-by-step diagrams, so visitors can see how one repair differs from another before they ask about it.

Projects can be filtered by repair type and compared with before and after sliders. Each opens in a detail view covering the problem, the fix and the steps, and a full-screen viewer adds zoom, previous and next navigation and keyboard controls. The gallery uses illustrative stock photography. The images are not completed customer jobs, and the site labels them that way.

Estimate request experience

Estimate forms appear where a visitor is ready to act. They validate on the client, explain what is wrong in a summary that receives focus, pre-fill the repair type from the page, estimator or assistant the visitor came from, and finish with a clear confirmation. The forms are interaction examples: nothing is sent or stored, and the site tells visitors so.

AI-style service assistant

Interactive carpet repair assistant

A conversational assistant sits beside every page. It helps visitors describe a carpet problem, learn which service fits, check the areas covered, and move to the estimator or an estimate request, with suggestions that change depending on the page they are on.

It works from predefined, rule-based responses and contextual actions presented as a conversation. It is not connected to a live AI model or to a support team.

Responsive design

Layouts adapt across desktop, tablet and mobile: the navigation collapses into a full-screen menu, service pages and the estimator stack into single columns, the gallery reflows, and a persistent call, chat and quote bar keeps the main actions within thumb reach on phones.

The site was checked at desktop and phone widths while it was built. It has not been through an exhaustive device test.

Local SEO structure

A service-area directory with an interactive map links to individual pages for Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Blaine, Birch Bay and Everson. Each location page has a place to say which repairs come up in that community, how scheduling works there and which questions are asked locally.

Pages carry descriptive titles and headings, breadcrumbs, and structured data built only from visible content. This sets up the structure for local search. It is not a record of rankings or traffic, and none are claimed.

Design and development decisions

  • Content follows customer questions, not the service list.
  • Interactive tools guide visitors to a service but never pose as an inspection or a quote.
  • One set of reusable components and tokens drives every page template.
  • Forms explain every error in words and move focus to the summary.
  • Imagery is labelled as illustrative wherever it appears.
  • Page structure is kept simple enough to move into a WordPress theme with templates and components.

Final outcome and capabilities demonstrated

The result is a complete local-service website: a clear repair catalogue, a guided path from a visible problem to an indicative price and an estimate request, an assistant that keeps visitors moving, and a service-area structure ready for local search.

It shows what I build when I take a service business from a blank page to a finished customer experience: custom theme and component design, responsive layouts, interactive tools and a content structure that keeps the next step obvious. This is a self-initiated portfolio project. The business is fictional, so there are no client results, testimonials or analytics to report, and none are implied.
